Ferry Me Across

One sunny weekend I took a trip on the ferry across the Delaware River to Camden, New Jersey with Jirbaud and my nephew. It was a fun, short trip but an opportunity for some candid shots nonetheless. Here are a few:

Nature

I want to go to a national park and take in the scenery, like Yosemite or Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon. That would be awesome. I can't help but think of all the great pictures I could take.

On the Open Road

Earlier this week, I went on a road trip. It was supposed to be 9.5 hours there and 9.5 hours back. No big deal right, easy peasy; I've driven that long in a straight shot before so I wasn't really worried. However, other people were because I was driving alone, no one to be my co-pilot and keep me up or takeover when I got tired. I was confident I could make it with no problems and considered this as a very good introduction to how it will be when I get my RV and move from place to place easily and at will.

I normally don't like driving, but this trip I realized that I actually do like to drive. I just don't like to drive in the city with the crazies and the traffic. You're so disconnected from your environment and the scenery around you, that's why I prefer to use a bike in the city. Driving on the highway is a totally different experience; it's like riding a bike in the city. There's much more freedom on the open road, no need to worry about traffic lights or cars cutting across at cut streets. You can just enjoy the view that surrounds the highway and let it accompany you while you drive. What's so great about driving long distances is that you get to watch the sky change as the hours pass or as the weather changes from location to location. It's really quite spectacular if you think about it. From this trip I have decided that I love the open road and an RV is perfect for me.

I like the way the sunrays pass through the trees and make patterns of shadow and light on the road. And the way when there's a bend in the road there's an element of mystery as to what's coming up next.

The bridge ahead of me and everything around me disappeared in the fog. It was serene, like driving to a cloud, so peaceful.

I like to catch glimpses of a beachy shore when entering and exiting a bridge. It just makes my day better.

P.S. Not the best pics because they were taken with my tele while driving.

South Beach

I want to go back to Miami. I was only there for a week once, but it has so much potential. Everything was so sparkly and wonderful. To start, the drive in to South Beach across the MacArthur Causeway was eye catching, I had a hard time keeping my eyes on the road. I was surrounded by clear blue water and boats that made my eyes jump from the cruise ships on the right to the marina on the left and back.

Arriving on the island, I was confronted by Art Deco architecture and pre-1960s cars parked in front hotels that all referenced another era. I felt as if I was in a different world.

It's not the beach that made it great, I've been to better beaches but they didn't have the same kind of atmosphere. The city scene combined with the natural scene and laid back vibe is what made it so welcoming to me. Is it my paradise? No, waaaayyyy too many people, but it is a place that I would like to visit often and have a more extended stay.

Stranded....Just About

So....I was flying home for spring break today. Been looking forward to this trip for awhile now. I've practically been counting down since I booked my flight a couple of weeks ago. I had everything planned. Pack two days before, order my cab two days before to come pick me up at 4:30 am, you know get everything together. Well, I did all that with only a few hiccups. First, I ordered my cab online and put in my house phone number, and ordered it for a day early. How silly of me. Well, I found out Morgan was leaving for the airport around the same time, so we decided to share the cab and leave 30 minutes earlier, a nice time cushion. Got that all straightened out and I was packed on Thursday night.

But today, O today. Grrr.... Well let me take a step back. Weather patterns started to change on Thursday so I decided to check the weather for my flight. A little snow was forecasted, nothing major. I expected slight delays. Well fastforward to Friday evening, FREEZING RAIN or SLEET or HAIL, whatever its called and a little snow. I check the status of my flight all night. Great news its still on and its leaving on time. Whoopee!

Now back to today. Get to the airport at a decent hour, 4:19 to be exact. Wait for the baggage counter to open, I'm second in line. First guy gets bad news. Now Wendi J. O no! Dry cry. My flight is overbooked because of the cancellations last night. Okay, I can deal with that, but what I can't deal with is the fact that I can't leave out until tomorrow morning from Dulles. It's cool though, I've been wanting to see the TWA terminal at Dulles for forever. It's designed by my one of my favorite architects, Eero Saarinen. So that's cool.

But one more thing, I spent all my cash on the cab ride over here. So no cab ride back, hence the stranded. The metro doesnt open until like 7. I really don't wanna sit around here that long, but if I have to. So Traver volunteered Drew and they should be here. O look that's them calling.

P.S. Wendi J. got home, back to the Annex safely. They arrived promptly at 5:20 a.m. Now she's chilling in her bed. Peace.

International Flava

So lately, I've been uncertain/unsatisfied with my decision to pursue a degree in architecture. Like I mentioned earlier, it's something that I enjoy doing but I never gave myself a chance to enjoy something else. I can see myself designing buildings, both residential and commercial, in the future. As I sat down to study for and take my exam today, I listened in on a conversation a 23 year old architecture male freshman was having with a 17 year old architecture female freshman about his age and delayed entry. He said he saved up and traveled after his senior year in high school, something I've been wanting to do. I really want to go to France and am planning a trip next summer my mother and I. To be a successful architecture student, I believe you have to be a student of the world. What better way to do that than travel and be an international student. I speak the language, sorta. I want to travel soon; however, there's always that nagging voice in my head saying where's the money, you'll fall behind in school, you gotta get shots {YIKES!!}, etc. Ummm...I don't know how I would finance the trip, but I think if I took a year off from school now (especially since I missed that in between senior and freshman year spot) I'll be more apt to accept my fate as a student of architecture and ready and willing to pursue it. I think it'll help a lot with the feelings I've been throwing around lately about getting too deep and wasting time in this major. I'll probably stick with it. Ah well major decisions. Peace out, I'm signing off.
